PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
saveBOARD Exposed Ceiling Tiles made from 100% shredded and compressed composite packaging. No water, glues or resins are used during the manufacture process. saveBOARD Exposed is finished with a recycled plastic face and recycled paper back.
NOT PERFECT
saveBOARD products are made from 100% recycled waste and as such are not perfect. The dimensional tolerance is + / - 1mm on cut size and the weight + / - 10% /tile.
The surface of Exposed may have veins or press marks, the paper backing (if present) may have creases and some air bubbles may be evident.
The colour will vary slightly from batch to batch due to the varying nature of the raw materials to manufacture saveBOARD, namely recycled waste Tetra Pak cartons. The colour may also vary slightly from a sample.

Limitations:

Not suitable for wet areas or high humidity environments.

Do not use in exterior applications.

Check compatibility with any existing ceiling grid systems and weight restrictions.
Storage:
Store internally only. Lay flat and palletised on suitable bearers. The spacing between the bearers should be no more than 300mm apart.
It is good to trade practice to allow saveBOARD materials to climatize to the site conditions for 48 hours prior to Installation.
MAINTENANCE
Exposed pre-finished tiles are inherently durable and moisture resistant with a wipe down surface. Contact with moisture will not stain the tile.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Working safely with saveBOARD
All saveBOARD products are safe to work and live with. All saveBOARD products are Volatile Organic Compounds (V.O.C.'s) and formaldehyde free.
saveBOARD can be cut, drilled, and sanded in the same manner and methods as most wood-based products.
Cutting saveBOARD does not create any toxic dust, vapors, or other potentially harmful inhalants, but we recommend you always follow Health & Safety best practices.

Cutting & Drilling
saveBOARD Exposed Ceilings Tiles can be cut in the same manner and methods as most wood-based products with a hand saw or power tools.
For handsaw cutting, a standard 500mm Handsaw with a > 7 Teeth Per Inch (T.P.I.) is suitable.
Power tools; a circular saw with > 1200w motor fitted with a standard ripping blade > 40 Teeth is recommended
Clean up the cut with a sandpaper block/ 80 Grade sandpaper or as required.
T.I.P. – Allow the hole saw to cut. Do not apply excessive pressure as this may damage the back of the board upon exit.
GENERAL
Heat Do not install the boards adjacent to, or behind heat source.
Bowing The tiles may show signs of slight bowing that occurs during transport or storage and after installation. This is normal and they will not sit perfectly flat relative to mineral fibre tiles and maybe more pronounced around natural light sources such as windows or artificial light sources.
If bowing is visually inconsistent, remove the affected tile(s) from the grid and apply pressure in the opposite direction of the bow, across a firm straight edge, this will straighten out the tile. Once in place the tiles will also settle over time. Allow up to 4 weeks.

Tight Fit – Issues with tiles not dropping into grid
If the tiles are tight to fit the grid due to the dimensional intolerance of a reused grid, consider trimming 2 5mm from the edge of the tile with skill / bench saw. Cut face down so the face does not tear, sand burred edge with 80grit sand paper.
Alternatively notch sides of tiles if the support wires are causing friction during installation of the tiles. This can be done with a craft knife or multi-tool.
Notching corners
If the ceiling grid has raised corners due to assembly issues (lapping of frame), consider notching the corner of the tile to prevent localised high point and gap. This can accentuate any visual bows and leave gaps between the frame and the tile.

The use of saveBOARD products will earn, or contribute towards earning, Green Star credits in the following Green Star categories:
Credit 19: Life Cycle Impacts
saveBOARD are low-carbon products. We have 5x EPDs covering 6x products, which are registered on EPD Australasia website. The global warming potential of our products ranges from -4.3 to -10.1 kgCO2e/m2 for A1-3 including biogenic carbon attached to the original fibre packaging.
Credit 21: Sustainable Products
Only one of following Credits may be claimed per product ie saveBOARD products currently meet 3 out the 4 requirements, but you can only claim against one requirement.
21B: Sustainable content
saveBOARD products contain 99% recycled content.
21C: EPD (Environmental Product Declaration)
Our EPDs are available on our website (EPD).
21D: Third Party
Certified by Eco Choice Aotearoa, and GECA Ecolabel both Level A certifiers.
21E: Stewardship Program
saveBOARD has a Product Steward Program that will qualify for this criterion.
Credit 22: Construction and Demolition Waste
Credits for this clause are claimed for the total amount across the project. Soft plastic waste generated on site can be collected and sent to saveBOARD to use in the manufacture of new board. This can be included in the overall total.
HomeStar (NZ Specific)
Homestar is New Zealand's leading holistic sustainability certification for new home design and construction. The use of saveBOARD products will contribute towards earning Homestar Points in the following categories:
EN2 Embodied Carbon
For use in your calculations the embodied carbon of saveBOARD products is 0.11 kgCO2e/kg.
EN3 Sustainable Materials
Up to 10 points are available where at least 50% of the material content is reused, eco-preferred or responsibly sourced materials. When calculating enter saveBOARD products in category (6), measured in m2.
EN4 Construction Waste Minimisation
Minimising Waste
saveBOARD products are available cut to length (minimum quantities apply). This will reduce off cuts during installation.
Onsite Sorting
Soft Plastics can be sorted and returned to saveBOARD to be remanufactured into new board. Ask us for a copy of “Accepted Plastics”.
Waste Diversion
As above, soft plastic waste can be recycled with saveBOARD. Any off cuts can also be returned to be manufactured into new boards.
Declare Label
Declare is a database of non-toxic, sustainably sourced building products that meet the stringent requirements of the International Living Future Institute’s Living Building Challenge.
Declare label is available for all saveBOARD products. Declare is like a nutritional label for building products, offering specifiers, contractors and building users insight into the ingredients used in the manufacture of building products. All saveBOARD products have all achieved Red List Free status.
Environmental Labels - Eco Choice Aotearoa & GECA
Eco Choice Aotearoa & GECA are the official ecolabels of NZ and Australia respectively. More than listing sustainable products for green homes or businesses, they are both Type I ecolabel offers strong, independent proof of environmental best practice for those products and services that bear the mark.
