'Do you have an EPD?'
For a long time that question was a sustainability preference. A nice-to-have. Something a few forward-thinking project teams asked and most ignored.
This month it is different.
As of July 1, Group 2 entities in Australia entered mandatory climate reporting under AASB S2. Their Scope 3 emissions, the carbon embedded in everything they buy, becomes a mandatory disclosure from July 2027. But data collection has already started and we're now 7days in.
For construction and property companies, Scope 3 is dominated by the embodied carbon in the materials they specify. Concrete, steel, timber and internal fit-out products like wall linings.
