Kitchens, bench tops, a set of drawers; most of its made from laminate or melamine over MDF or chipboard. I went looking to see what the leading manufacturers say about end of life. Almost all of them land on the same answer: safe to landfill, dispose of responsibly, maybe waste to energy if you're lucky.
What is hard to find is circular options. From what we can see, it's limited or aspirational targets for the future.
So we decided to make our own, which we call betterJOINERY. Its not perfect, however you can leave it Exposed or apply a high-pressure laminate to our substrate if you donโt want the recycled look. Key for saveBOARD is that thereโs no new process required, we literally shred up the offcuts and end of life, add heat and pressure, and it becomes a new board.
It's not that hard to be responsible, choose differently next time you are specifying.
